Magnesium is the main alloying element in the 5052 aluminum plate, and the maximum solid solubility in aluminum can reach 17.4%, but in the 5××× series alloys commonly used in the industry, the magnesium content generally does not exceed 5.5%, which cannot be strengthened by heat treatment. For aluminum alloys, although the solid solubility of magnesium in aluminum decreases rapidly with the decrease of temperature, the aging effect is poor due to the difficulty in nucleation of the precipitated phase, the small number of cores, and the large size of the precipitated phase. Magnesium preferentially precipitates at the grain boundary in the form of anode MgAl or MgAl3, which makes the alloy prone to intergranular cracks and stress corrosion. Magnesium can significantly increase the strength of aluminum without excessively reducing its plasticity. Al-Mg alloy has good corrosion resistance and weldability. Al-Mg alloys in the annealed state may produce Luder's' lines during processing deformation.
